A new record collection of old prescription and over-the-counter drugs were collected last weekend across the state.
Attorney General Roy Cooper says some 8.5 million pills and tablets were dropped off at various police and sheriff offices on Saturday.
That beat the old record of 7.7 million doses collected in March.
Among the 11 thousand pounds of drugs turned in were painkillers such as Hydrocodone, Oxycontin and Fentanyl, all which can be highly addictive.
