Detention officers in Onslow County got some real-life training on what it would be like if an inmate gets violent and refuses to get out of their jail cell.

The New Hanover County Special Response Team has been training local detention officers to safely get inmates out of their cells.

Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown says, "These things don't happen often, but when they do happen you have to deal with them. That's what you've seen today. You deal with you. You've got to make that happen."

Two different groups of detention officers were trained over the week. Those officers watched as the special response team demonstrated what to do if an inmate gets rowdy.
