Two men originally charged with attempted murder have had their charges upgraded, after the victim in the case died.
Pitt County Detention Center records show 23-year-old Lamario Melton and 27-year-old Anthony Phillips are now charged with 1st degree murder following the recent death of 32-year-old Anthony Parker.
The Pitt County Sheriff’s Office says that Parker was shot in the head outside his home on Lynch Street in Fountain during a robbery back on May 28th.
28-year-old Samuel Melton, Jr. was charged with accessory after the fact in the case. Officials say a 15-year-old juvenile was also arrested following the crime. Their charges are not known.
Sheriff’s officials say that Parker died as a result of the injury suffered from the May shooting.

WITN has confirmed with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office that 32-year-old Anthony Parker has died as a result of the injury suffered during that shooting back on May 28th.
4 people in all were arrested in connection with the case including a 15-year-old juvenile.
Charged were 23-year-old Lamario Melton and 27-year-old Anthony Phillips. Both were charged with attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
28-year-old Samuel Melton Jr. was charged with accessory after the fact.
Officials say that Parker was shot in the head outside his home on Lynch Street and that the motive for the shooting was robbery. At last check with family this summer, Parker was said to be in good condition but remained in a coma.
Sheriff’s Spokeswoman Christy Wallace says that charge updates are coming and that an information update will be released in the coming days.
