Death certificates filed for the two stabbing victims from North Topsail Beach show they both suffered wounds to the neck.
The cause of death for both Robert Shellhamer IV and Christopher Stewart is listed as exsanguination, which is excessive loss of blood.
The report says Shellhamer had a stab wound to the neck, while Stewart had an incised stab wound to the neck.
The two men were stabbed to death Thursday night.
Police have not said much about the case, except that it appears that the two stabbed each other.
Police aren't saying much about a double homicide at North Topsail Beach Thursday, but they have released the names of the two men stabbed to death and a 911 call.
Woman caller: "She came up saying that her husbands been stabbed and he's dead, and she came running up the beach."
Dispatch: "OK. Is she completely alert?"
Woman caller: "Yeah. She's alert".
Woman caller: "But we don't know her so she's sitting on the porch right now."
North Topsail Beach Police say that call was made shortly after Robert Shellhammer IV and Christopher Stewart were stabbed to death. They were found dead along the beach Thursday night.
Police say the two men appeared to have killed each other. The two 31-year-olds lived less than 10 minutes away from each other in Sneads Ferry.
We reached out to the families of both victims Monday, but they say they are heartbroken and didn't want to be interviewed.
The North Topsail Beach Police Department released the names of the men killed in an apparent knife fight on the beach last week.
Robert Shellhammer IV and Christopher Stewart were both 31 years old.
Police say the investigation is still underway.

The North Topsail Beach Police Department says they responded to a possible stabbing in the beach strand area between Ocean Drive and the Village of Stump Sound off of NC 210. That's where officers found two men dead.
Town Manager Stuart Turille says the two victims were in their late 20s or early 30s and it does appear they were fighting each other. Turille says the two men were not vacationers and their names are not yet being released.
Police said in a news release, "We do not believe that there exists an imminent threat to the safety of the citizens and guests of this the surrounding communities regarding this case, and at this time we are not actively searching for any suspects."
Several law enforcement agencies are assisting in this murder investigation, including North Topsail Beach police and the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office. Surf City and Holly Ridge police officers also assisted during the initial response to the crime scene.
