Murder, Police Standoff Suspect Scheduled To Make Court Appearance

A Northampton County man is scheduled to make a first court appearance Monday to face a murder charge and charges related to a police standoff.

Dwight Anderson, 42, is behind bars for the murder of Cory Medley, 36, according to the Roanoke Rapids Daily Herald. The paper reports Medley was shot early Saturday morning in the Northampton County town of Rich Square.

After the murder, lawmen say Anderson engaged them in a 40-minute long standoff, during which the suspect tried to shoot officers with an AK-47. Lawmen eventually got Anderson to surrender, and no one else was injured.
