Murder Suspect On the Run For Months Arrested In Rocky Mount

A man suspected of two murders in Halifax County was arrested in Rocky Mount Wednesday ending a months long manhunt in Northampton, Halifax, and Nash counties.

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office arrested 29-year-old Herman Edwards of Weldon in the parking lot of the Executive Inn in Rocky Mount Wednesday.

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department, the Rocky Mount Police Department, the Nash County Sheriff’s Office and the State Bureau of Investigations all assisted.

Edwards is charged with the September 18th murder of Brandon Peterson and the September 21st murder of Lorenzo Tann Jr. Deputies say Edwards had been on a crime spree for months and he's also charged with breaking and entering, larceny, and possession of stolen goods in Roanoke Rapids. He's charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon, felony possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia and a warrant for possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine in Weldon.

Edwards was held without bond and given a court date of October 12, 2011.
