Family members of 63-year-old Phyllis Williams yelled out, "We are here for you," and "we love you" in a Carteret County Courtroom on Thursday afternoon. Williams is in custody, charged with helping her daughter hide the murder of 90-year-old Goldie Hall. The woman had been missing for days before deputies found her body.

Phyllis Williams of Newport was arrested Wednesday by Carteret County deputies. Williams is the mother of Rhonda Hagan who was charged with the September murder of her great aunt, Goldie Hall. Deputies said Hall was William's aunt, by marriage.

Williams is due back in court January 4th. Her bond was not changed, and remains at $300,000.

The 63-year-old Williams is charged with accessory after the fact of murder, obstruction of justice and failing to report a death.

Previous Story:

The mother of a murder suspect has found herself behind bars, charged as an accessory to killing an elderly woman.

Phyllis Williams of Newport was arrested Wednesday by Carteret County deputies. Williams is the mother of Rhonda Hagan who was charged with the September murder of her great aunt, Goldie Hall.

The 63-year-old Williams is charged with accessory after the fact of murder, obstruction of justice and failing to report a death.

District Attorney Scott Thomas says the mother was charged because of her conduct after the death of Hall. Thomas says additional charges against both women are possible.

An autopsy that was just completed this week said the elderly Hall died from 11 different wounds to her head. The cause of death is listed as blunt force trauma.

The 90-year-old woman's body was found September 27th, days after a fire was reported at her home and she was nowhere to be found.

The autopsy says Hall lent money to Williams and deputies reported that Hagan claimed her great-aunt fell and hit the back of her head in a struggle.

Deputies say Hall was Williams' aunt by marriage.

Williams is jailed on a $300,000 bond and will have her first appearance Thursday.
