Camp Lejeune Marine's Death Under Investigation

The death of a decorated Camp Lejeune Marine is under investigation.

Marines say Gunnery Sgt. George Figone, Jr. died Monday at a Wilmington hospital. A friend found the 32-year-old Marine unresponsive the day before and he was sent to Cape Fear Hospital. The Marines say Figone was then transferred to New Hanover Regional Medical Center where he died of complications.

Figone is a native of Stockton, California. The Purple Heart recipient was assigned to the 2d Marine Special Operations Battalion at Camp Lejeune. Figone had been deployed twice to Iraq and once to Afghanistan.
