Officers have suspended the search for a suspect that led troopers on a high speed chase and then ran off into the woods in Bertie County. The suspect was not found.
Officers are searching for a man who they say led them on a high speed chase and then ran off into the woods off of NC 45 near Merry Hill in Bertie County.
According to Sgt. Tim Crumpler it all started when a trooper attempted to pull over a motorcyclist for speeding in Washington County on NC 45 near Mackeys Road around 6:10 p.m. Sunday.
Crumpler says the motorcyclist then sped off. The trooper pursued the motorcyclist and a high-speed chase ensued. The driver went up to 120 miles per hour according to Crumpler.
The suspect then attempted to pull over onto a private road off of NC 45 near Jamestown Road, when he wrecked. The suspect took off running into the woods.
Officers say the motorcycle the man was driving was stolen.
Officers are using K-9's to search for the suspect.
The Highway Patrol, Bertie County Sheriff’s Office, Hertford County Sheriff’s Office, and Wildlife Officers are helping to search.
