Streaking Suspect Banned From ECU Campus

Greenville, NC -- East Carolina University police say they plan to get a lifetime trespass warning against a Raleigh man who is accused of running naked onto the football field this weekend.

John Sieglinger was charged with misdemeanor trespassing and misdemeanor indecent exposure after police say he streaked onto the field during the halftime of the Southern Miss game.

ECU police say the 21-year-old man told them he “woke up Saturday morning and had the idea he was going to ‘streak’ at the ECU football game.” Police say with bond money collected, he carried through with his plan.

The university says their investigation revealed that Sieglinger was in a different section of the stadium earlier in the game. When he came out of the stadium seating to run onto the field, he was more than 50 yards from where he was seen earlier. Police say his plans to avoid security and staffing personnel were clear.

The naked run came during a military tribute that was taking place on the field. "The university deeply regrets the disrespectful behavior that occurred during halftime," says ECU Chancellor Steve Ballard. "ECU is justly proud of the dedication and leadership of our military men and women, and to have the events that honored them disrupted in such a manner was unfortunate."

Sieglinger was released on a $1,500 bond.

East Carolina University's loss to Southern Miss isn't the only topic of conversation following Saturday's game.

People are also talking about a streaker who took to the field at halftime.

Various photos and videos show the naked man running across the field before he is stopped.

Public records show 21-year-old John Sieglinger was charged with misdemeanor trespassing and misdemeanor indecent exposure.

Bond was set at $1500.

A Facebook page that appears to be Sieglinger shows he lives in Raleigh. The status on the page is "just ran across the ecu football game naked? anyone watch it live?" The Facebook page also listed his education as Wake Technical Community College.

At the time of the incident, a military tribute was being held on the field. It was military appreciation weekend at the game.

Some have questioned if a conviction on a misdemeanor indecent exposure charge means an individual has to register as a sex offender. According to online information from the state, registration only occurs with a felony indecent exposure charge.

Listen - what gives - I have sent in several comments on about 2-3 different topics as of late - you haven't posted them - why? I didn't use any inappropriate language - I am a 75 graduate with honors, an attorney and was a letterman on both the football ( a great ECU team ) & track teams - don't I deserve to be heard ? - it seems you have your little buddies that you keep on posting over & over again - I would expect you to be fair & post all of my comments, especially a member of the best defense ever in ECU football history, the "Wild Dogs" - its too bad that we are now too old to play, or we would offer to suit up now - our present defense is so sorry Please start posting my comments. Aren't we all tired of "Anonymous" for instance and a few of the others that you continually post over & over again??

If they ban this streaker, then they should really ban anybody (student or non-student) that has ever robbed an ECU student from near within 500 yards of ECU campus. If that person does violate the ban, then charge and convict him with trespassing and sentence him to about 10 years in prison just for that. That would do a lot better of ensuring the safety of ALL ECU students. I suggest Pitt CC do the same since it's growing around there.

They should ban the guy from campus just because he was being such an idiot. To the ones who try to bash ECU, the alumni, athletes, and staff of ECU, guess what? This guy was not a student. This guy was also from up in ACC territory, in Raleigh. ECU followed the right protocol in banning him from campus for life.

People that think what this guy did to children is no big deal are either not parents or not very good parents. Because this happened in the 70's it is OK today?? It was not OK then either. You can molest a child without contact. Willfully exposing a child to adult nudity simulating a sex act is molestation. Let a man do that to your daughter and see if you agree. If you do not then you should not have children.

The 'streaker' did NOT simulate any act; he ran across the field, rather quickly, and was apprehended just as quickly. If you feel that strongly about the safety of your 'children', then don't put them a public adult arena full of college kids where tail-gating and alcohol use is abundant. Use some common parenting advice; take them to Chucky Cheese, the roller rink, or keep them at home with some snacks and age-appropriate DVD movies. Don't blame your lack of parenting on ECU; it's just so lame.

Really????? Really???? You can't be serious!!!! Molestation???? Where in the world did you get that from? That makes no sense whatsoever! There was 40,000 people there. He did NOT single out the kids. Get a grip!

Kids are closer to adults in a public restroom than they were in this case. The streaker was hundreds of yards away. If you think this is molestation, then every little boy that has ever gone into a public restroom while an adult was using a urinal was molested.

I was there at the game and he didn't do anything to physically harm a child. It was all a prank. Get over yourself! A misdemanor charge is fine, but a felony charge? Come on get real. He was running and dancing around.....I didn't seem him do anything inappropriate with himself or any kids. No he doesn't need to register as a sex offender because he didn't do any sex crimes with any children! People did this stuff all the time in the '70s. You just tell your kids that beahvior like that is not acceptable in your household and MOVE ON! It was funny! It was better than watching the ECU Pirates hand the game over to USM. I hope they all laugh at your lawsuit because IT IS A BIG, FAT JOKE!
