Man Leads Officers On Chase In Pitt County

A man recently charged with assault with a deadly weapon is now back in jail after he led officers on a chase in Pitt County on Saturday.

According to NC Highway Patrol a trooper was traveling on Memorial Drive around 8:45 a.m. Saturday when he noticed a vehicle's tag was not fastened correctly. The trooper ran the tag and it showed the insurance had been cancelled on the car. When the trooper tried to stop the driver, the driver took off.

A 17 mile chase ensued. It started on Memorial Drive near Airport Rd. then went onto NC 43 North where they went towards Edgecombe county. The driver did a u-turn and went back towards Greenville. Finally around 30 minutes later the suspect was boxed in on Memorial Drive near the intersection of Arlington Blvd. He jumped out of the car and ran but several troopers and deputies caught him.

That man, 51-year-old James Moore Jr. of Greenville, was arrested. He's been charged with felony speed to elude arrest, reckless driving, and insurance and tag violation. He was given a $17,000 dollar bond.

According to the Pitt County Detention Center Moore was previously in jail back in July 2011 on an assault with a deadly weapon charge.

During the chase the top speeds were up to 70 to 75 mph in the county. In the city the top speeds were up to 50 mph.

There was a minor wreck between a trooper and Greenville Police car during the chase.

No one was injured during the chase.

Did you miss the part about having no insurance? You'd never get a dime except from your own un/underinsured policy.

The only clue I get that this might be sarcasm is the "Democracks" comment. The portrayed writer isn't very likely to complain about the political party that keeps him down because most will never realize it as a source. I really hope this was intended to be sarcastic.

Ladies, you don't need to play bumper cars at taxpayer's expense to catch a 51 year old out for a Sunday drive.

And we the tax payer's will pay for all of this, including full lodging and his attorney fee's. Just a wonderful thing to spend our money on huh? Too bad he did not hit a tree, then that would have been poetic justice!
