A man apprehended after a two county high speed chase is accused of pushing his mother down a flight of stairs after she refused to give him her prescription medications.
Gregory Anderson is suspected of leading lawmen on the chase last night after a robbery at Pap's Grill & Variety in Stella. The chase ended in Jones County when lawmen say Anderson wrecked his mother's stolen vehicle.
Anderson was released Wednesday afternoon from Pitt County Memorial Hospital and now has been formally charged in the case.
Carteret County deputies say around 7:00 p.m. they got a call at the Newport home Anderson shares with his 66-year-old mother. They say his mother suffered a dislocated shoulder after being pushed down the stairs.
Deputies say Anderson is accused of stealing his mother's .25 caliber handgun and her vehicle. As they were interviewing the victim, another call came in for the armed robbery. Both the vehicle description and that of the robber matched Anderson and his mother's stolen vehicle.
The store owner tells WITN News that a man walked out of the store with a 40 ounce beer and a glass figurine rose. An employee went followed him outside, telling the man he didn't pay for the goods. That's when the man pulled a gun on her. The employee ran back inside and called 911.
Jones County deputies spotted the stolen vehicle and it struck a Jones County Sheriff’s patrol car. The chase ended when the vehicle crashed on Cat Fish Lake Road after Anderson’s vehicle landed on its side.
In Carteret County he's been charged with assault inflicting serious injury, larceny of a motor vehicle, larceny of a firearm, damage to property, larceny, and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
His bond was set at $250,000.

The Carteret County Sheriff's Office says Anderson has not been formally charged for the robbery or the chase since he remains at the hospital. He was originally transported to Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City but was moved overnight to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.

Authorities say following the robbery about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, the suspect took off and headed on Highway 58 into Jones County at a high rate of speed. Jones County deputies tell us the suspect eventually crashed on Catfish Lake Road where authorities were able to take him into custody.
The suspect was taken to the hospital. His name has not been released, and no other details were given Tuesday night.
