Trooper: Man Flips Car On Highway 70, Marijuana Possibly Involved

A man driving down Highway 70 in James City flipped his SUV just past the railroad tracks and now sits in Craven County jail on multiple charges, according to Highway Patrol.

Eighteen-year-old Mark Parker-Stallings flipped his Ford Explorer on Highway 70 in James City around 11:15 p.m. Tuesday, according to troopers. His vehicle then crashed into a guardrail.

After the trooper arrived on scene he suspected that the driver was under the influence of narcotics, but Parker-Stallings refused to take a blood test. The trooper then conducted field sobriety tests which the driver failed. Drug paraphernalia was also discovered inside the vehicle.

Parker-Stallings sustained minor cuts but refused treatment on site.

He is now being held at Craven County Jail and charged with driving while impaired, reckless driving and possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond is set at $1,000.

I'm getting ready for a smoking experiment. I'm going to smoke some cannabis, and then check back to write and see if I am 'impaired'. Who's with me?

If cannabis doesn't impair you then why did he fail a field sobriety test? If alcohol was involved they would have mentioned it... Its easily detected. You dont fail those tests unless you are impaired!

Being 'impaired' by cannabis is a misnomer. While the drug does have an effect on the user, impairment does not adequately describe the effect, especially in relation to other drugs..... like that legal killer... alcohol. The fact is that they don't know what this kid was on, except for finding paraphernalia. According to the story, he refused testing, which does not mean he failed the testing.

Why don't they arrest the people who wreck because of cell phones and texting! They are the dangers to the road!

The headline that 'marijuana possibly involved' without any supporting facts besides a piece of paraphernalia is ludicrous. Needed to sensationalize it a little? Reporter says, "Bam..... I got it.... marijuana... that will spice this crash up! Make it a blanket statement! They won't know what hit em!" All this while the 'news team' brushes up their knowledge of cannabis with their only source .....the movie Reefer Madness. Hilarious.

Might as well include the beverage he was drinking. It could have been spiked with alcohol. Could have read: "Pepsi Possibly Involved"

Logged over half a million miles in various vehicles including five motorcycles when I use to smoke weed regularly and never had an accident.

Marijuana didnt cause this accident. It is not as physically impairing as alcohol or other drugs, including OTC meds. Wasted time on pointing out "Marijuana possibly invovled". Was that even necessary to state considering theres no proof of that at the moment?

Unless he dropped a joint or bowl and wasn't paying attention because he was trying to pick it up, marijuana wasn't involved.

Not as impairing? But it IS impairing, right? I think you need to put the pipe down yourself, please before you get "not as impaired" and kill someone.

Most people who smoke, or have smoked, will tell you that cannabis does not impair in the way alcohol does, or any other drug for that matter. Actually, impairment from cannabis, I think, is a misnomer. So, when cannabis 'impairment' is ever mentioned, many without knowledge of what the plant does automatically think drunk, since that's what EVERYONE knows.

Marijuana does cause impairment due to the THC. Do your homework before making an uneducated post. Drugged impaired drivers are just as frequent and dangerous as alcohol impaired drivers.

Who needs to be informed? First off, this discussion relates to the use of cannabis, not all drugs. Your statement that 'drugged impaired drivers are just as frequent and dangerous as alcohol impaired drivers' is not factual. Vehicle deaths from alcohol happen more than all other drugs COMBINED. In relation to cannabis, which this story is about, there has never been one recorded car fatality with pot as the sole contributor. Maybe you should check your facts before making an uneducated post.

No they want to stick it to this guy cause he had some weed, she was huffing a legal substance. Pretty soon you'll have to sign a promise slip at Walmart when you buy your paint that you won't huff it. Cause that'll keep people from doing it. Add in that huffing paint is much worse for you than weed.
