Man Arrested In Virginia, Charged With Posing As NC DMV Officer

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina authorities say they've caught a man accused of scamming thousands of dollars from Latinos by posing as a state Division of Motor Vehicles employee who offered to get driver's licenses for a price.

The DMV's License and Theft Bureau said Thursday that Andres Diaz Gonzalez was arrested in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. He's currently being held without bond and is scheduled to be in court April 18 for an extradition hearing.

Investigators say he posed as a DMV security officer who charged $1,500 per license for Latino immigrants who couldn't get them on their own. Officials say Gonzalez would bring groups of at least 10 victims at a time to DMV offices before disappearing with their money.
