Deputies say a man exposed himself to a bus load of middle school students this morning.

Calvin Smith, Jr. of Newport is charged with one count of felony indecent exposure by a defendant over 18 to victims under 16.

Carteret County deputies say Smith lives on Old Airport Road and the school bus routinely stops in front of his home to turn around. They say this morning the 57-year-old Smith was standing in front of his glass storm door completely naked as the bus was making its turn. Deputies say Smith knew the pattern of the bus and intentionally exposed himself to the students.

Captain Jason Wank said that most people believe that it is not considered indecent exposure if you're inside your own home. But, North Carolina General Statute 14-190.9 says that “a public place is a place that is viewable from any location open to the view of the public”.

Smith is jailed on a $10,000 bond.
