Man Wanted On Chase Charges Leads Deputies On Another Chase

Four people were injured and two others arrested after Martin County deputies were led on a high speed chase Wednesday afternoon. Deputies say the driver was wanted for a previous chase.

It began in Bertie County when a Martin County investigator was returning from the regional jail. The Mercury Grand Marquis pulled out in front of the deputy, causing him to take evasive action to avoid a collision. The car then went south on Highway 12/17 at a high rate of speed with the deputy following.

At the county line, deputies say the Mercury stopped in the middle of the road, the driver got out and cursed at the investigator and waived his arms. He then got back inside and sped into Martin County. That's when the deputy began the chase, which exceeded 110 miles per hour.

The chase ended in Williamston after the Mercury first hit a garbage truck on Main Street, and then a van. After a brief foot chase, the driver and passenger in the Mercury were arrested.

Deputies say the driver, Donta Joyner, was a wanted man on charges of fraud, ID theft and felony flee/eluding arrest. He's now charged with assault with a felony deadly weapon on a government official, aggressive driving, speeding 110 in a 45, driving while license revoked, and felony flee/eluding arrest. His bond was set at $75,000.

The passenger, Stanley Rodriguez, was cited with resisting, obstructing or delaying an officer and released.
