Man Charged In New Bern Cold Case Murder Will Face Death Penalty

Prosecutors say they will seek the death penalty against a former New Bern man wanted in two murders, including one that happened 35 years ago.

The New Hanover district attorney announced today that they will try Andrew Adams for capital murder in the death of a 24-year-old Wilmington woman earlier this year. Adams is also charged in the 1977 murder of Gwendolyn Nelson of New Bern. Her body was found near an elementary school cafeteria on June 29, 1977.

Adams was arrested for the cold case murder in New Bern after he became a suspect in the Wilmington homicide.
