NEW INFO: Man Arrested After Shootout With Wilson County Deputies

A gunfight between deputies and a man reportedly firing a gun inside his home ended when that man was shot.

Captain Wanda Samuel with the Wilson County Sheriff's Office says they received a shots fired call from Bottoms Dairy Road near Elm City around 6:20 p.m. Tuesday. When deputies arrived, Ashby Silver came out of his home and started firing his gun. Samuel declined to answer whether Silver was aiming for the deputies, citing the incident is under investigation by the SBI.

The sheriff's office deployed their special response team, Samuel said, and one of the members shot Silver. He sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. After he was released, Silver was booked in the Wilson County Jail.

Silver is charged with three counts of assault on a government official, discharging a firearm inside of occupied dwelling and discharging firearm within 300 ft of residence. He's being held under a $100,000 bond.
