A sheriff's deputy who was shot in the neck and lost his partner 4 years ago this month has been promoted to Major of Administration for the Lenoir County Sheriffs Department.
Ryan Dawson has been a law enforcement officer for 10 years. His entire career has been spent with the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office. Dawson is a third generation deputy sheriff. Back in April of 2009 Dawson and his partner were shot during a shootout. His partner Allen Pearson was killed. Dawson was shot in the neck and saved by Deputy Chris Hill who is now the new sheriff and promoted Dawson to the position of Major of Administration Monday. Dawson says he will use his past to make a better future for the department..
"It's just a reminder to make sure we are always doing the best we can do and one thing I always promised myself. If we didn't learn from things in the past we can never get better. Moving forward now, as Sheriff Hill says, there are changes to be made and good things to come and those are things we will always try to build on and make this office better," said Dawson.
Dawson's new job at the department will be to head the budget and daily operations.
