Prison Escapee Captured

An inmate who escaped from Piedmont Correctional Institution in Salisbury Monday has been captured.

The Department of Correction says 35-year-old Ronald Pritt was on a work assignment at Piedmont Correctional Institution in Salisbury. They say he was working as a groundskeeper outside the fence on prison property when he was last seen around 2:30 p.m.

Pritt was captured around 9:45 p.m. in the woods less than a mile from the facility.

Pritt was serving a three year sentence for habitual drunk driving and was due to be released in July.

Pritt now faces a felony escape charge.

It is not unusual for inmates to commit a crime or escape shortly before they are due to get released. A lot of inmates will be right back in prison within 18 months of their release. They can't handle life in the "real world".

He actually did the state a favor trying to escape. If he got out in July, he would no doublt commit another crime and have to go through the court system again. He just cut out the middle man..thanks guy!

He only had a few months until he was to be released. He will have to serve more time for the escape. What would he have had to face on the outside if he hadn't escaped? Family responsibility? debts? child support? job search?

I would start looking at the closest bar or club, looks like the AA classes he went through in prison were a waste.10 to 1 he's drunk and looking more trouble .

Looonngggg list of convictions in Rowan and Cabarrus Counties, so I'd guess he's from that area. Keep a lookout! Other convictions include firearm possession by a felon and assault on a female.
