Kathy Taft’s Daughter: “I just care that he doesn’t ever get out.”

WITN’s Sara Dodrill spoke with Kathy Taft’s daughter Saturday, just a day after her mother’s murderer was found guilty.

On Friday jurors found Jason Williford guilty of first-degree murder and guilty of first-degree rape.

Jurors apparently did not believe defense lawyers who tried to prove the Raleigh man was mentally ill and did not use premeditation in the death of Taft.

Taft was from Greenville. She served on the State Board of Education. Back in March of 2010 she was staying at a friend’s home in Raleigh after cosmetic surgery when she was attacked and killed.

The judge will have jurors return Monday morning where they will hear testimony in the sentencing phase of the trial. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Williford.

Paige Fuqua told WITN, “It was a relief to get that verdict. Not that, we already knew he was guilty and we knew that wasn’t an issue, but it was still a relief to get the first degree. You know at this point I can honestly say I don’t really care what happens to him. At this point I just care that he doesn’t ever get out. That’s the only thing I care about.”
