The owner of the Kellum Law Firm says the gunman who shot a man in the parking lot of the legal firm's Greenville office Friday is not connected to the law firm in any way. "He just happened to walk through that parking lot," Norman Kellum said.
"We were just as shocked as the rest of Eastern North Carolina," Kellum said.
Russ Needell, the managing attorney for the Kellum Law Firm's Greenville office says the man shot in front of the firm is an insurance adjuster for GEICO, a man they have known for years. The victim was planning to retire very soon, Needell said, calling the victim a "great guy." A woman who works at Kellum may have seen part of the violent event, Needell said, and ran back to the office. People in the office came to the victim's aid until first responders arrived.
Needell said he didn't know if Lakim Faust, the suspected shooter, has any connection to GEICO, but a search of the firm's database shows he has no connection to the Kellum Law Firm.
Kellum announced he is starting a relief fund for the victims named "Greenville Strong." The fund will go towards the victims' medical costs and rehabilitation expenses. Kellum is donating $5,000 to the effort.
If you would like to donate you can send checks to the Greenville Strong Fund at the CarolinaEast Foundation, PO Box 1576, New Bern, NC 28563.
