Juveniles Charged With Vandalizing 83 Grave Markers

Damage has been estimated at $100,000 to a cemetery that was hit by vandals. Now three juveniles have been charged with the damage.

Wayne County deputies say on November 11th they got a report of vandalism to the cemetery at Providence United Methodist Church as well as a Boy Scout facility on their property.

Dozens of tombstones were either knocked over or broken with a baseball bat believed to be used by the vandals. Deputies learned the suspects may have been juveniles that live in the area and eventually juvenile petitions were filed against the three.

Deputies say the three boys ages 11, 13 and 14 are charged with 83 different counts of disturbing of a casket and/or grave marker, breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering.
