A Marine faced a judge today, after being accused of drowning two puppies then throwing them away in a trash bin near his home.

Jacksonville police say 21-year-old Cpl. Benjamin Link is charged with two counts of cruelty to animals and two counts of disposition of dead domesticated animals.

Arrest warrants say Link drowned a pit bull puppy and pit lab retriever, then put the animals' bodies in a plastic bag and improperly dumped them into a trash bin.

The Marine Corps says Link is based at the New River Air Station, assigned to Marine Aviation Logistics Squadron 26.

Link is also charged with assaulting a government official after police say he headbutted an officer trying to arrest him.

Link is in jail under a $25,000 dollar bond.
