A Pitt County man ended up back in jail after authorities say a clerical error allowed him free on bond.

Deputies at the Pitt County Detention Center said 28-year-old Michael Rouse of Bethel was brought back in Thursday by the Sheriff's Office.

Rouse was arrested in January with three counts of breaking and entering, three counts of larceny after breaking and entering, plus a charge of safe cracking. He was also facing two charges related to sex offender registration violations.

But Sheriff's Office Lt. Malcomb Carmichael says an error at the Clerk of Courts Office allowed Rouse to be freed on a lesser bond. Once that was discovered, the man was re-arrested Thursday.
