An executive officer with a home builders association is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the group over a four year period.
Sharon Williams Craft was indicted Monday by a Pitt County grand jury on four counts of embezzlement. Greenville police say the woman embezzled $87,443 from the Greenville-Pitt County Home Builders Association, while employed as its executive officer.
Police say after finding irregularities with the group's membership payments to the state organization, they asked for an audit by the North Carolina Home Builders Association. It determined the woman was stealing funds by writing multiple checks to herself, a business she owned and family members.
Craft worked for the group from December 2001 and was suspended on March 12th, according to a police news release. The woman has not yet been served with the orders for arrest.
The Greenville-Pitt County Homebuilders Association has some 240 members, made up of local contractors, building suppliers, and other businesses associated with the construction industry.
