Distracted driving can be dangerous and deadly and it's why the Highway Patrol has been involved in a campaign the past two days to raise awareness about the dangers.
Troopers worked several roadways and issued a total of 62 citations in several NC counties for moving violations, including five for texting. Distracted driving not only includes texting, but also eating and drinking, grooming, reading, watching a video, or adjusting a radio, cd player, or mp3 player.
Highway Patrol says across the country in 2009, 5,474 people were killed in crashes involving driver distraction, and an estimated 448,000 were injured. While the two day campaign has ended troopers across the state will continue to monitor and enforce distracted driving violations.
