There have been eight murders within 90 days in Halifax County which usually averages about eight murders a year. Now officials say they need your help in finding the killers.
Eight people were killed in seven different incidents. Two deadly shootings have been in Enfield, five in Roanoke Rapids, and one in Weldon. The sheriff's office is investigating seven of them. The Roanoke Rapids Police Department is investigating the other. Sheriff Jeff Frazier says it is unusual to have that much crime in such a short amount of time. He says investigators believe the shootings are drug related, but not connected at this point.
"It's been awful, been unreal with what's going on, and the detective division has just been overwhelmed with this. We put everything together, brought in other officers. We have a team working on it," said Frazier.
