Greenville Police Lieutenant Named Pinehurst Chief

A Greenville police lieutenant has been named the new chief for the Moore County town of Pinehurst.

Lt. Earl Phipps, a police officer in Greenville since 1989, will become police chief in Pinehurst on December 1st.

In a news release, Greenville Police Chief William Anderson said he announced Phipps' resignation with great regret, but much pride.

Phipps is currently the commander of the newly formed Code Enforcement Division. In December Lieutenant Phipps co-founded Angel Cops, a Greenville-based nonprofit outreach ministry that cares for the homeless throughout Pitt County.
