UPDATE: Greenville Gang Task Force Makes Arrests

The new Greenville gang task force, formed in response to recent murder, other violent crimes, and gang activity, says it has arrested two people.

Twenty-seven-year-old Marcus Barrett was shot on East Second street December 1st and has now been arrested for an outstanding warrant for selling marijuana. Officers say they found $2,500 in cash in his sofa. His bond was set at $25,000.

A check of online jail records Tuesday morning found Barrett was no longer in the Pitt County Detention Center, suggesting he posted bond and was released.

Josiah Haughton was also arrested after police say they found he had several grams of cocaine, scales, and cash. Police say he is a Crip gang member from New York and is on probation for a felon with a firearm charge. He was also convicted of manslaughter in Nash County.

Greenville police say the gang task force made up of local, state, and federal agencies- also located Blood gang members during the operation, but none have been arrested at this time.
