Greenville Convenience Store Robbed

Greenville police are using K-9's to search for the man who robbed a convenience store this morning.

The Handy Mart at Memorial Drive and Moye Boulevard was held-up around 10:00 a.m. Police say the man did not show a weapon. He demanded money from the clerk, jumped over the counter and took cash from the register.

As he was trying to leave the store, the clerk was able to lock him inside and secure herself behind the counter. After the robbed tried to kick open the door, the clerk decided to release the locks on the door.

Police released surveillance video of the robbery, hoping that someone might recognize the robber. Click on the video link at the top of the story to view the video.

Police had several K-9 units attempting to track the robber. No one was injured in the hold-up.

We've got to realize that there is a subculture in Greenville. The police will never stop the crime- it is the nature of the population. There is no way you can prevent someone from robbing a store, or from going to the drug dealer's home and killing him. Until these type of people are run out of town, this is what we are dealing with. There are less than 200 police ( FAR fewer than that working at a given time)- for a population of 83,000 plus all the visitors, shoppers, and students. Section 8 rentals all over town don't help in keeping these people out.

I'm sure the store clerk could provide no description of the robber such as gender, RACE, etc....The media is so politically correct they would sacrifice the public saftey in order to not offend someone's sensibilities. The poice INVESTIGATE crime far more than they prevent. Get a concealed carry permit, a weapon, and learn how to use it. The situation is only going to get worse.

If the people who own these stores had any brains (and spines) they would let their employees who had proper training carry concealed while at the register. That way, the the sentences given to these robbers would be delivered quickly (at about 900fps) and would be measured in "grains" not years. THAT would be justice...

Shoot them first and let God sort them out. Let the bodies hit the floor. Citizens need to retake the town from the thugs and gangs that seemingly committ senseless petty crime. But beware of your new and improved CASTLE LAW citizens need to retake their city. Let the bodies hit the floor shoot a few thugs plaster it on the news and see how fast the robberies stop.

Just another day in Little DC (Greenville). People (stores included) better start fending for themselves, because the police can't be everywhere all the time. I sure don't blame the police, they are doing all they can do, and it just keeps piling up. My guess is if a few of these thugs were shot during their crimes by their victims, the others might think twice the next time.

Citizens! Your government can not protect you from the predators that freely roam our streets. Protect yourself or become a statistic. We now return to your regularly-scheduled daydream, already in progress.

Why does this surprise us that a store got robbed during the daytime. Daytime, night time it doesn't matter anymore. The criminals KNOW just as we all know that robbing someone or some business is just as easy as taking candy from a baby. When on earth is Greenville going to get a REAL police chief? How many more robberies or deaths is it going to take? It's sad for me to see Greenville as once a nice place to live and raise kids change to a crime ridden gang infested town. Get a police chief! Greenville citizens deserve to feel safe!

When will this kind of thing no longer be news in eastern NC? Everyday is the same, black man-shoots, black man- robs, black man-drugs. Now before you jump on me a throw your race card watch the headlines for a week.

Ms Anonymous, why are you upset at Discription's comment? Unfortunately, there is a 90% chance that his is right. You, like so many, are still not ready to accept reality.

I can accept reality and I know what the reality is, I just don't jump to conclusions, stereotype and accuse people because it is WRONG to do so!
