Six Charged With Stolen Guns After New Year's Eve Celebrating

Police say some New Year's Eve celebrating landed a half dozen men in jail on stolen firearms charges.

Greenville police say they were patrolling near South Greenville School Monday night when they saw six men firing guns into the air. When they saw police, the group ran back into the house and officers asked for backup.

Police apprehended the six men and found two stolen firearms, another gun and several hundred rounds of ammunition inside the home on Howell Street. Officers also seized marijuana and other drug paraphernalia inside the house, along with approximately $1200 cash.

The six were charged with possession of stolen firearms, possession of stolen firearm by a felon, possession with intent to sell drugs within 1000 feet of a school, and other various crimes.

Those arrested were Kelvin Williams, Torrance McLawhorn, Justin Grimes, Dante Corey, Julius Paul and Alexksis Waller.

Two Greenville men are beginning the new year behind bars on drug and gun charges, including selling drugs near a school.

Records at the Pitt County Detention Center show 31-year-old Dante Corey and 26-year-old Torrance McLawhorn are both charged with maintaining/selling/dwelling/possessing a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession with the intent to sell and distribute marijuana, and possession of a stolen firearm. Corey faces two stolen firearm counts.

Both men were issued bonds of $100,000.
