Greene County Man Shot, Kids In House Not Hurt

A Greene County man is listed in stable condition at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville after authorities say he was shot several times last night.

Greene County Sheriff Lemmie Smith says they responded to a shooting at 1229 Davis Rd., southwest of Snow Hill just before 9 p.m. Tuesday. Sheriff Smith says Ricardo Martinez answered a knock at his door to find two armed men who rushed in the house and shot Martinez several times.

Smith says there were two children in the home at the time of the shooting: the 15-year-old son of Martinez's girlfriend, and a 6-year-old Martinez was babysitting for. Neither child was hurt during the shooting.

Smith is now investigating what could have motivated the two men to shoot Martinez. He says they drove off in a small black car.
