Goldsboro Man Hit By Gunfire, Stray Bullets Hit Home

One person was shot and stray bullets hit a home nearby in a shooting --police need you help to solve.

It happened at the 1000 block of Devereaux Street in Goldsboro, Christmas Eve.

Officers say shots fired in the area, struck Tavaris Whitfield while he stood near his car.

Stray rounds also hit a nearby home where two women were inside, they were not hurt.

Whitfield tried to drive himself to the hospital when he got into a car accident near Wayne Memorial Drive Overpass and Highway 70.

The other driver was not injured.

No word on Whitfield's condition, although he did survive.

If you have information you're urged to call Wayne County Crime stoppers at (919) 735-2255.

V said, "Goldsboro has so much potential. What is holding it back?" Um, look at G-Town. Ranks right up there with Durham with the number of projects...want to CHANGE the way G-Town is going....GANGSTA.....then close 99% of the public/private subsidized housing areas/apartments....

I understand there may be need for subsidized housing. There is a huge difference between a hand up and a hand out. We need to create a community where work is expected and rewarded, not where honest work is avoided, vagrancy is common place, and tax dollars are gifted to lazy or criminally focussed physically fit who cripple our communities and prevent economic development. If more folks were forced to work for the money/housing they receive, they might just have less time to devote to crime!

I would like to know what the gun laws are in Wayne County and Goldsboro. My understanding is each county/municipality creates their own per NC STATUTE 160A-189. Too often I hear gunshots in the city limits. Over the last several months I have witnessed all too often men all in black or black and white with baggy pants hanging out in the parking lot of WalMart or the Mall with guns visibly tucked in their waistbands. It is unnerving. Surely these thugs are on surveillance footage? Now this story of "stray bullets". Surely we are better than this! Who has to die or whose property damaged before the CITY and COUNTY act? Goldsboro has so much potential. What is holding it back?
