Gang Activity Possibly Related To MAC 9 Found At School

Gang activity may be related to a 13-year-old boy who was found with a MAC 9mm pistol at school on Friday. The MAC is a semi-automatic handgun.

Lenoir County deputies say the firearm was discovered by staff at Woodington Middle School in the student's backpack. The weapon was not loaded.

Staff had been alerted by another student who say the weapon was in the suspect's waistband.

The teen was charged with felony bringing a firearm to school property, and deputies are trying to determine who owned the firearm and how it fell into the hands of a 13-year-old.

Deputies say they have gathered information that the student with the gun and some friends were involved in some sort of gang affiliation.
