A former Pitt County teacher has been arrested and charged with taking indecent liberties with a student.
Authorities say 22-year-old Sarah Holmes of Greenville turned herself Friday afternoon.
Detectives say they received a report in November that a female English teacher and a 17-year-old male student at North Pitt High School were having an inappropriate relationship.
The teacher was suspended and then resigned a few days later.
After weeks of investigating, Pitt County detectives put out a warrant for her arrest.
Holmes is charged with one felony count of taking indecent liberties with a student.
Holmes was a first-year teacher and hired in August 2011, according to the sheriff's office.
