Former Pamlico County Deputy Heading To Prison

A former deputy at the Pamlico County Sheriff's Office will be heading to prison.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says 38-year-old Robert Baker, Jr. of Arapahoe pleaded guilty to three charges related to illegal searches. Federal prosecutors say Baker conducted two illegal searches of homes and instructed other deputies to do so as well. He also pleaded guilty to illegally searching a motorist, who turned out to be an undercover officer.

Baker was fired from the Pamlico County Sheriff's Office as a result of the SBI investigation.

Baker was sentenced to 27 months in prison followed by one year of probation.
