Former Cop's Certification Suspended After Armed Robbery Arrest

Georgia says it will suspend police certification for a Kinston man who was arrested Wednesday for robbing a Goldsboro business.

Matthew Webb was arrested yesterday after police say he robbed a Family Dollar Store on Highway 111 South.

The Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council says the Kinston man last worked as a police officer in Pelham, Georgia in November 2007 when he was terminated. They say the 31-year-old Webb worked for nine different police departments in the six years he was certified in Georgia.

Goldsboro police say Webb is not currently a police officer, but works at Sanderson Farms. They say a handgun was found in his vehicle when he was arrested.

Kinston police say last month Webb told them he fired shots at two men after he said they broke into his Hodges Road home.

A Kinston man who police say is a former law enforcement officer in Georgia is accused of a Wednesday morning armed robbery in Goldsboro.

Police say the Wayne County Sheriff's helicopter spotted the suspect's vehicle on U.S. 70 and kept it in sight until deputies on the ground could stop the man.

Charged with the armed robbery of the Family Dollar Store on Highway 111 South is Matthew Webb. The robbery happened around 11:20 a.m. and police say no one was injured.

Police say Webb is not currently a police officer, but works at Sanderson Farms. Last month the house listed as Webb's address was the scene of a shooting and burglary. In that case the resident came home and told police he had surprised a burglar.
