Former Pender County Volunteer Fire Chief Arrested

A former volunteer fire department chief in the east is now behind bars after police say he shot his wife and stole a neighbor's truck.

James Garvey, 39, is currently in the Pender County jail. According to the Jacksonville Daily News, Surf City police were responding to a domestic call on Teresa Drive in Pender County when they came across Garvey who had driven his neighbor's truck into a ditch on Highway 17.

The paper says Garvey's wife Dianne was shot in the leg, hospital officials say she was treated and released.

Garvey is facing three felony charges, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a felon, larceny of a motor vehicle and misdemeanor assault on a female.
