A father has been arrested for not properly storing a gun after his son shot himself.
On Tuesday, Beaufort County deputies charged Bartolo Mondragon of Washington with failure to store a firearm to protect a minor.
Deputies say back on March 15th the child accidentally shot himself, with the bullet going through his hand and into his leg. They say it appears the child found the .25 caliber semi-automatic at his home and began playing with it. Deputies say his injuries were not life-threatening.
State law says gun owners have to keep their weapons safe from those underage. The 40-year-old Mondragon was jailed on a $8,000 secured bond.
