Farmer Admits Filling Wetlands With Contaminated Dirt
A Jones County farmer has pleaded guilty in federal court to filling wetlands with contaminated dirt.
Randolph Foy, Jr. made the plea Monday before U.S. District Judge James Dever.
The feds say Foy operated a farm in Trenton, and in April 2010 he an a co-conspirator agreed to fill an area of the property. That co-conspirator delivered 50 to 60 dump truck loads of dirt, and a bulldozer pushed the dirt to wetlands of a tributary to the Trent River. Investigators later learned the dirt was petroleum-contaminated soil.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says when all this was happening the farm participated in a state and federal wetland conservation program which they received money.
Foy will be sentenced in February and faces up to three years in federal prison.
