in response to Greene too. Sounds to me that you are jealous that you couldn't get the guy you wanted in Office, I think that the chief is doing a great job, better than the one before. So you need to grow up and keep your ignorant comments to yourself.

just to prove a point,no one cares about the law here.i sat in a food lion parking lot, and watched a woman park in front of the store.keep in mind NO PARKING FIRE LANE. a deputy pulled up wrote her a ticket, out comes the woman, started having a debate,to the point the deputy had to walk off. she said something to the effect i was just in there a min.chances are she made a few calls and the ticket was cancelled out.this happens all the time, some how,the good ole boys think this does not apply to them.if they can not do something this simple then something has to change.that deputy did his job but most are afraid to.MR. SMITH i was told tells his deputies if you want to write tickets join the highway patrol.

It is amazing to me to read these uneducated remarks. People, I know you are upset - as we should be! However, before you write comments that may hurt someone, a real person who is making a positive change to our town, please research them! The Greene County Sheriff's office has not changed their patrolling, despite the many comments below. Our town has hired one police chief to begin a team of people to patrol the town. THIS IS IN ADDITION TO THE COUNTY'S CURRENT PATROLING! We, the people of Snow Hill, have extra coverage because the County Sheriff's office was insufficient!

So while you are telling people no to write comments that may hurt someone to do research then you call the Sheriff's office insufficient. Are you a Snow Hill Board Member trying to justify your actions? This whole story has NOTHING to do with either departments shortcomings, it's reporting a crime that unfortunately happened in our community. It IS the Town jurisdiction and just as they have been working together I am sure that the Town police officer will be working with the Sheriff's office.

You are absolutely right! It was a low blow. The point overlooked in my comment was that they are working together - the town and county. They, together, are patrolling the streets despite there being only town police chief. I don't care about politics and even less about being a commissioner or any public figure.

The Sheriff is an elected official elected to serve all the citizens. He took an oath to enforce all the laws of North Carolina no matter who the lawbreaker is. He did not take an oath to do selective law enforcement, which Lemmie is very good at. He is a master at staying outside the realm of investigation. Yes, the Town of Snow Hill did start their own PD. However it is within the County of Greene. He is obligated to serve all the citizens of Greene. Any sheriff who cares about his constituants would be more than willing to offer assistance to any LE agency with no boundaries. Remember tax payer dollars are what built the courthouse and paid for all the equipment. The Sheriff's Department is the citizen's department and we should expect more from someone with this much authority.

It gives me hope to know that some of you know the facts about Lemmie Smith. Just so he can drive a big suv, wear a badge, and lead a funeral--what he does best. The former employees are telling the truth. The current employees are afraid to tell the truth for fear of losing their jobs. Sheriffs through NC have had lots of fun at Greene County's expense for keeping him in office. But I guess if you know you can always call "the Sheriff" when you need him, and he knows he has your "vote", why wouldn't you support him. Never mind improving Greene County's quality of life. In Greene County, money is not the issue for these employees--it is leadership and respect.

Sheriff Smith is the reason for the Police Department. He was approached by the town manager on honoring the Sheriff's contract to enforce town laws such as speed and these "problem areas". The Sheriff told the town that if they didn't like the way he ran things they should start their own PD. Oh, the Chief of SHPD has more experiance than anyone at the Sheriff's office. Don't bash the deputies, yes there are some that shouldn't have a state certification because of there past however most are doing the best they can. They are not offered any training to improve their skills. Sheriff Smith has a lot of people fooled. He is the 99% of the problem and you can follow up with all the deputies that have worked there. Most of them did not leave simply because of the money although the Sheriff claims thats why everyone leaves.

You forget to leave out that the Chief of Snow Hill PD is good friends with one commissioner and that commissioner did everything possible to get his "buddy" the job even before the job was posted or department formed. Talk about controlling and favotism!

To Law Abiding Citizen: I assure you that the Low Income Familys that live across the road from me are not picked on are intimidated at all. They sell drugs in the daylight and pollute the roads around the Graveyard.

There's a ring of corruption running the courthouse. It's a tight click of family and close friends. They do what they want, there's no accountabilty. The deputies are unprofessional, a few of them have criminal records that would make it difficult to get another job and they act wild and drive wild. They pick on, intimidate and harass the same low income families over and over again. They are lining the pockets of these judges and attorneys, social workers, mental health professionals, and foster parents, etc. by just bringing in a steady line of people to pay the courthouse. Solving crimes and catching real bad guys is an after thought.
