Dog Fighting Operator Makes Guilty Plea In Federal Court

A Duplin County man, who authorities say ran one of the worst dog fighting operations that they have seen in recent years, has pleaded guilty in federal court.

Harry Hargrove made the guilty plea Monday before U.S. District Judge Terrence Boyle.

Last April 35 pit bulls were confiscated and several other dogs were found dead at the man's Duplin County home outside of Mount Olive.

During a raid of the property, officers says they found tools of the dog fighting trade that included a treadmill used to condition fighting dogs, a spring pole which was used to strengthen the a dog's jaws, extensive amounts of veterinary supplies, and a blood-stained fighting pit.

The feds say 34 confiscated dogs had to be euthanized because of injuries or aggressive behavior. Officers also found a battery and jumper cables that had been modified to allow for the electrocution of dogs.

Hargrove faces up to five years in federal prison. Sentencing will be in June.

You know its not just this man. you know he had to have had help raising these dogs. One man cannot raise that many fighting dogs alone. So you see he will take the fall for the dogs this go but you wait and see if someone else don't keep up his work while he's away! Criminals always have a backup plan. Thats what they do while in prison sit, sleep, eat, exercise and plan how to do it better without getting caught the next time.

Against the law yes, just plain jacked up in everything he did to these poor dogs yes. But when the dogs were taken by authorities they were all KILLED because of injuries or aggression. as bad as it sounds at least with the man they had a fighting chance to survive but it’s not like we as a society LOVE violence or anything, boxing, ufc, football and every other contact sport where hurting the other team is a good thing. Rome, one of the greatest civilizations ever, LOVED violence too in the form of gladiators but they had slaves to die in the arena. If it wasn’t for social constraints then I’m sure there would b a form of entertainment were the loser was killed but companies love repeat business so if it was legal I’m sure it would b limited. But if u haven’t seen movies like death race or gamer they could always use life serving prisoners they r dead men anyway might as well make some money and entertain too right? Evil yes burn in hell I’m not so sure, one could say all men r evil

What a pathetic excuse for a human being. Harry Hargove is the epitome of a backwoods redneck. Disgusting!

This poor excuse for a human needs to be put in a pen and all 35 dogs turned loose on him.

It is a shame he cannot get the same treatment he gave these poor animals. I would like to be on his jury also. Throw the book at this sorry excuse of a human - I sure wouldn't call him a man.

Black,White,Brown,Yellow,Red---race doesn't matter when there is hatred in your heart. What this man and his followers have done are so inhumane it is hard to even believe. I too hope that some day some hot place holds this human--but it isn't for me to decide!! God expects us to respect his creations. My heart goes out to the poor animals that came in contact with these people and I hope it never happens anywhere else again. The laws need to be so much stronger to crimes like this. You hear of animals being stolen--they could end up as bait dogs for these fighting rings. They must be stopped and prosceuted to the limit. Please don't take a plea deal with this stuff. Make them pay for what they do and it will send a message--like the Vick case did!!
