Brothers Charged After Deputy Kills Pit Bull

Two brothers have now been charged after their pit bull attacked a Duplin County deputy sheriff Wednesday evening.

Derrick and Giovanni Pemperton have been charged with failing to secure a vicious dog and simple assault.

Wednesday night, Deputy Matthew English said he was trying to serve a warrant on Giovanni Pemperton when his brother answered the door. Their dog ran past the man and started biting English on the upper leg. The deputy ended up shooting and killing the dog.

Bond for the brothers was set at $1,000. The deputy is having to undergo rabies shots because the pit bull was not to to date on its vaccines.

A deputy sheriff is undergoing rabies shots after being bit by a pit bull yesterday.

Duplin County Sheriff Blake Wallace tells WITN News that his deputy ended up shooting and killing the dog.

It happened late Wednesday afternoon when Deputy Matthew English was trying to serve an arrest warrant at a home on Highway 117 in Warsaw. A man opened the door, and the dog charged outside and bit English on the upper left thigh, according to the sheriff. Wallace says the man at the home shut the door and the dog continued to attack the deputy. The deputy then shot the dog.

The admitted today that their pit bull not up to date on its rabies vaccine, so Deputy English has started to receive rabies shots.
