A recent Pitt County arrest highlights an apparently growing issue of prescription drug abuse in the east.
Deputies with the Pitt County Sheriff's Office said they arrested 28-year-old Sheria Smallwood after they were contacted by two local pharmacies.
Those businesses told investigators Smallwood was trying to fill fake prescriptions for narcotics.
The 28-year-old is now facing two charges of attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraud or forgery. Her bond was set at $5,000.
