Two cities in the state marked the beginning of 2013 with two murders, just hours, after the new year.

Fayetteville Police say the city's first homicide of 2013 happened just two hours after the new year began.

Investigators say doctors at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center called them after someone with a gunshot wound was taken to the hospital around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday.

Authorities say the man died in surgery less than two hours later.
Police have figured out where the victim was when he was shot, but haven't given a time the shooting took place or a motive. The victim's name was not released.

Police in Durham are now looking into their first murder of 2013.

Investigators say 33-year-old Kinta Newman was shot around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

His friends brought him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Durham Police are looking for a dark-colored Cadillac that was seen in the area around the time Newman was killed. A motive for the slaying has not been released in this case either.
