DEPUTIES: Woman Leads Them On High Speed Chase

A high speed police chase has landed a Beaufort County woman in jail.

Deputies have charged Audra Johnson of Pinetown with felony speeding to elude arrest, careless and reckless driving, speeding, injury to real property and resist, delay or obstruct an officer.

Deputies say last Thursday they were investigating a domestic assault in which neither side wanted to pursue charges. As Johnson was leaving the property, deputies say she began spinning her tires in the yard in circle patterns. They say she then left at a high rate of speed down Highway 32.

Lawmen tried to stop the woman, but say she led them on a chase at speeds estimated at near 100 miles per hour. Eventually the vehicle became disabled after striking a portion of the railroad tracks near Highway 32 and Ripp Highway.

The 34-year-old woman was jailed on an $18,000 secured bond.
