DEPUTIES: Puppy Parts Fed To Dogs, Couple Arrested

Deputies say they made a gruesome discovery Tuesday when they went to a Newport home with animal control officers.

Inside a storage building they found a dog eating the leg of an eight week old puppy that deputies say had previously been gutted by the residents. They also learned the puppy's internal organs were fed to other dogs. Deputies also found another dead dog in a cage.

Charged with cruelty to animals and failing to dispose of a deceased domesticated animal are Gina Alfano and Kevin Diers of East Branch Drive.

The puppy's remains were collected to determine if the trauma it suffered was before or after it died.

The two posted $25,000 bond and are expected to face a judge today.
