A man is accused of exploiting his 94-year-old mother to the tune of more than $200,000.
Charles Farnell of Midway Park in Onslow County is charged with two counts of felony exploitation of an elderly/disabled adult.
Deputies say back on July 1st the 71-year-old Farnell took his wheelchair-bound mother to both First Citizens Bank and Marine Federal Credit Union, had his name added to the accounts and then closed them. Deputies say the man's mother has had several strokes and suffers from dementia.
The Department of Social Services contacted deputies in August and Farnell was arrested Monday after an investigation. His bond was set at $30,000.
