A Jones County man is accused of trying to kill his elderly mother with an ax.

It started around 8:40 a.m. on Highway 41, west of Comfort, when deputies say Alberta Waters got a phone call from her son who threatened to kill her.

Deputies say 57-year-old Daniel Waters came to the woman's house, hit her door with the ax, and then chased the 80-year-old woman to her neighbor's home. While deputies were en route, another caller said Waters was behind the home, breaking out glass doors and trying to get in.

Waters was found outside of his nearby home and had to be tasered after deputies say he failed to comply to their orders.

Waters is charged with attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, felony breaking or entering, communicating threats, resisting public officer and two counts of injury to real property. His bond was set at $505,000.

Deputies say he apparently was upset that his father recently left the home and its possessions to his mother, and not him.
